Come see Proven Practice #6 (encourage students’ participation in simulations of democratic processes and procedures) in action! The Center for Civic Education has developed a curriculum which culminates in a simulated congressional hearing. In this session you will learn more about this curriculum that can be used at the elementary, middle, and high school levels and you will have the opportunity to see a mock simulated congressional hearing by high school students. The simulated congressional hearing is a means for students to apply their knowledge of history and government and engage in a simulation of the democratic process. This simulation also helps students to increase their civic knowledge and builds their teamwork, analytical thinking, and public speaking skills. Schools can set up this simulation as a classroom activity, school wide contest, or compete in the state "We the People” competition. This program is adaptable for different grade levels and school size.
